The Louisiana Department of Health reported 4,515 more confirmed coronavirus cases and 40 more confirmed deaths in its noon update Sunday.
Sunday’s update reflects two days’ worth of data; the state does not release coronavirus case counts on Saturdays.
The number of hospitalizations decreased by 109, and the number of patients in need of ventilators increased by 5.
There are also 35,872 total “probable” coronavirus cases in Louisiana, according to the agency’s dashboard.

The Louisiana Department of Health releases a daily case count on its dashboard that includes probable cases as indicated by a positive antigen test. That case count can be different than the one listed here.

Louisiana began reopening for Phase 1 on May 15-16 then moved to Phase 2 on June 5. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards extended Louisiana’s Phase 2 restrictions twice in August before moving the state to Phase 3 on Sept. 11.
